Inside Our Workshop: How Stage-Gate Quality Saves You Rework

A behind-the-scenes look at our internal checkpointing system and how it ensures delivery excellence.

At Craft, we believe that excellence is not something you check at the end of production. It is something that is carefully built into every stage of the journey. From raw timber arriving at our workshop to the final polish before delivery, our Stage-Gate Quality Process acts as a series of checkpoints that prevent issues before they happen.

Why Stage-Gate?

Furniture making is both an art and a form of engineering. Each piece must balance design precision, material integrity, and the Craft promise of longevity. Without a structured quality system, even a small oversight early in production can become a costly problem later. Stage-Gate creates structured checkpoints where our team stops, verifies, and signs off before the work continues.

Why Stage-Gate?

Built on Accountability

Every stage has its own quality control form. This checklist ensures that each craftsperson takes ownership of the work in front of them. The process is not about administration — it is about pausing with intention to ask critical questions.

Is this the correct timber with the right tone? Are the cuts precise and clean? Does the finish match the approved control sample? Are all components free of defects, dents, or damage?

If any item does not meet our standard, work is paused. The issue is escalated to the Project Lead, who makes the final decision on whether to correct the concern before moving forward. That decision is signed off, transferring accountability and ensuring that no one is pressured to overlook quality.

Built on Accountability

No Surprises. No Rework.

By the time a piece reaches final assembly, it has passed through multiple independent checkpoints. Pre-machining checks confirm the integrity of raw materials.

Fabrication and post-fabrication checks verify structural accuracy. Pre-finishing and post-finishing checks ensure consistency with the design vision. Final approval by the Project Lead confirms readiness for delivery.

This layered approach ensures that issues are identified and resolved at the source rather than discovered in the client’s home. The outcome is fewer delays, no hidden flaws, and a final product that fully embodies the Craft standard.

No Surprises. No Rework.

Quality As A Promise

For our clients, Stage-Gate Quality provides certainty and peace of mind. Each purchase is more than a table, cabinet, or bespoke furniture piece. It is an investment in a process that has been carefully designed to eliminate rework and guarantee excellence.

It is one of the ways we honour our commitment: built to last, crafted with care.
